Men and women, equally made in the image of God, enjoy equal access to God by faith in Christ Jesus. However, men and women are not nor were not created identically. Adam and Eve were made to complement each other in a one-flesh union. This equality with distinction as created by God has implications on how we view sexual behavior, marriage, family, the church, and most significantly the Gospel itself. This sermon, week 5 of our series, explores the creation of man as male and female and how Paul sees this as “mystery” of something bigger. Texts: Genesis 2 and Ephesians 5.
Our current church environment, taking its cues from the surrounding culture, is increasingly valuing doubt over faith, uncertainty over conviction, and an arrogant vagueness over a humble confidence in matters of biblical teaching. This perspective is actually at odds with the life and teaching of Jesus and his disciples. What a person believes – about God, about humanity, about the Bible, and about salvation – is of utmost importance to Christ. This series – “The Statement: What We Believe and Why We Believe It” – examines our church’s Statement of Faith and Confession and is a foundational series for the biblical beliefs of Redeemer Bible Church.
